WASHINGTON, June 9: The United States on Friday proposed the creation of an international ‘contact group’ on Somalia as an Islamic militia cemented its grip over the lawless country after months of clashes with a US-backed warlord alliance.
“We are calling for the convening of a Somalia contact group, the Somalia Contact Group, the week of June 12 — next week — up in New York City,” State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.—AFP
