NEW DELHI, June 7: Oman’s army chief Major General Said Bin Nasser Bin Sulaimar Al Salmi, currently on a tour of India, has visited the Line of Control in the Kupwara sector, an official statement said on Wedneday.

“The delegation visited the Line of Control in Kupwara Sector of the Kashmir Valley, where they were briefed about the insurgency situation prevailing in the area,” the Indian statement said. It did not give further details of the unusual visit by a foreign army head to Jammu and Kashmir.

The delegation on a five-day official tour since Sunday were also to visit various training establishments of Indian Army. “Increased defence cooperation with countries of the Middle East and the rest of the world is a recognition of India’s emerging status as a regional power,” the Indian statement said. This tour was preceded by the visit of a training delegation in April.
