Woman councillor kidnapped

TANK, June 7: Five masked men kidnapped woman councillor Razia Ajmal and her driver from the city on Wednesday. The kidnappers later released driver Taib Khan near Tank Zam area adjacent to the troubled South Waziristan agency. Police have registered an FIR.

The driver told police that the kidnappers might shift the woman councillor to the tribal agency.

Tank police station SHO Abdul Hai told reporters that it was premature to say who was involved in the kidnapping of the 62-year old councillor.

Though no group has claimed responsibility, official sources said that militants’ involvement could not be ruled out as she (Razia) had recently received threats.

The sources said that Ms Ajmal was on her way back home after attending a workshop on family planning in the district council hall, organised by the federal health ministry.

Five masked men stopped her vehicle near her house in Qaber Wali street and took her and the driver.
