COLOMBO, June 7: The Sri Lankan government on Wednesday denied responsibility for a pressure mine explosion in an LTTE-controlled region in the east of the country which killed seven people and injured 10.

Four children were among those killed in the blast in Batticaloa which took place around 10.00am on Wednesday.

The LTTE had blamed the army for the attack.

“The explosion is something which happened inside rebel-controlled territory so we cannot comment on the incident,” military spokesperson Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe said.

A top ranking military source said the attack was likely to have been carried out by members of the LTTE dissident group led by Tamil Tiger renegade Karuna.
