Gibbs banking on ICC

Published June 7, 2006

NEW DELHI, June 6: South African opening batsman Herschelle Gibbs is pinning his hopes on International Cricket Council (ICC) to sort out the legal tangle arising from match-fixing scandal that has prevented him from visiting India for a long time.

Gibbs, wanted by Delhi police in their investigation into match-fixing scandal of 2000, wrote on a website that he was keen to take part in the Champions Trophy in India later this year and the apex cricket body could set the issue right and pave way for his tour to India.

“Hopefully they (ICC) can iron everything out so things go smoothly out there for me. I should know the outcome in the next month, hopefully sooner than later,” he wrote.—Agencies
