Islamabad, Kabul move to simplify visa rules

PESHAWAR, June 6: The governments of Afghanistan and Pakistan will review rules for visa which has been a main hurdle for the people of both countries wishing to travel by the recently started Pakistan-Afghan bus service after a gap of 27 years.

A special committee comprising representatives of the two countries will hold its meeting in Kabul to discuss various problems being faced by the transporters from both sides while the committee would also re-consider the visa and travel documents condition and a decision would be taken to relax the terms if both countries agreed upon, however unilaterally neither Pakistan nor Afghanistan could make a decision in this regard.

NWFP transport department was compiling a list of the problems which the travelers and transport company has been facing after the service between Afghan eastern city Jalalabad and Peshawar formally resumed on May 26 this year. The list would be discussed in the meeting of special committee to be held in Afghan capital Kabul within four months.

Beside other problems, the committee would review to increase number of the buses if the situation demanded whereas both the countries would remover every hurdle to make the service successful, member of the special committee and provincial director transport Sajid Jadoon told PPI. Mr Sajid said government of Pakistan would discuss all matters, including the option to relax visa condition, with Afghan authorities in Kabul.

Mr Sajid said Afghan government had also expressed reservation over the visa condition but unilaterally non-of the country could amend the conditions fixed by the authorities prior to start the bus service between Peshawar and Jalalabad. “Both the countries would forward their proposals as to how condition of visa could be relaxed” Sajid Jadoon said adding the terms could be amended if both the countries agreed upon.—PPI
