By Our Correspondent

HARIPUR, June 6: Two police constables were arrested and a criminal case was registered against them here on Tuesday for extorting money and mobile phones from two travellers.

District Police Officer Syed Feroz Shah also suspended the two policemen, sources said.

According to them, Ishtiaq and Siraj of the Ali Khan village were going from Haripur to Kag village in a pick-up with two women.

Head constable Qaisar Waqar of the Sera-i-Nehmat Khan police post and constable Muneer Shah of the Khalabat Township police intercepted them near Chapper road and allegedly took two mobile sets and Rs2000 from them.

A complaint was lodged with the Saddar police.

The SHO of the Saddar police station conducted an inquiry, recovered the cellphones and cash from the accused and submitted a report to the DPO.

An FIR under section 382/34 of the PPC was registered against the constables who were later arrested and suspended.
