Education ministry to get Rs6.5bn

ISLAMABAD, June 5: The government has allocated Rs6,560.258 million for the ministry of education under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2006-07. Out of this allocation, Rs2,741.682 million would be spent on 88 new schemes, whereas Rs3,818.576 million has been earmarked for the 48 ongoing schemes.

For the new schemes, Rs2,661.739 million would be taken from local resources and the remaining requirement of Rs79.943 million would be met through foreign loans.

Similarly, for the ongoing schemes Rs3,660.568 million has been allocated and Rs158.008 million would be coming as foreign loans.

In contrast, a sum of Rs16,300 million has been allocated for both new and ongoing schemes of the Higher Education Commission.

For new schemes, Rs3,044.210 million have been allocated for unapproved projects and the approved schemes would be getting Rs1,832.179 million.

All these allocations have been made from local resources and no loans are involved.
