Jayawardene fined 20pc match fee

NOTTINGHAM, June 5: Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee in the third and final Test against England at Trent Bridge.

Jayawardene had made an untroubled 45 on Sunday's third day of the match when, chasing a wide delivery from Liam Plunkett, he got an edge and was caught by wicket-keeper Geraint Jones.

The Sri Lanka skipper swished his bat and knocked over his stumps, seemingly more in frustration with himself than in annoyance with the umpire's decision.

Jayawardene immediately raised his hand in apology but, following a hearing, Australian match referee Alan Hurst, the former Test bowler, imposed the fine.—AFP
