KARACHI, June 5: Pakistan Navy dominated on the opening day of national boxing championship with three of their pugilists moving ahead at Naval Physical Training and Sports Centre on Sunday.
Navy’s bantamweight Mohammad Pervez outboxed Jibran Patni of Sindh 17-2, while Bakht Hussain of Navy emerged winner when Balochistan’s Waheed Ullah retired in the second round of the featherweight bout.
Karar Hussain was the third Navy boxer to move ahead when he was declared winner against Sindh’s Farooq after referee stopped the bout (RSC) in the third round of the lightweight fight.
Bantamweight Mohammad Ali of KPT defeated Asghar Ali of Balochistan 30-21 and Shahid Jan, also from KPT, was the winner against Rashid Masih of NWFP on a RSC verdict.
KESC also followed Navy when two of their boxers notched-up facile victory. Bantamweight Abid Ali of KESC got the better of NWFP’s Mohammad Zubair 6-1, while his teammate Shoaib Rasheed was 20-8 winner against Waqas in the featherweight fight.
