Dil Vil obliges punters with back-to-back wins

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, June 5: Fancied bay filly, Dil Vil, delighted punters when she outclassed her rivals to win the second race in-a-row during the Lahore Summer Meeting in floodlights at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

The 70 to 100 Javaid Khalid owned favorite filly, Dil Vil, ran away from her eleven rivals at the final bend to beat Billoo The Great by seven lengths in this third race of the day.

The feature event, the Bhalwal Plate class IV division I to be gone over 1000m was declared void after Fajr withdrew at the last-minute from the contest leaving only five contenders in the field.

The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards decided to cancel the event. Thus the seven-event card was reduced to six only.

Long shot dark-bay colt, Run And Win, who was beaten twice on his previous runs at last made amends winning the supporting and sixth event in a front-running style.

He beat Royal Fantasy by four and a half lengths. Putra's Lady and Baker's Gal completed the frame among eight starters left after the last-minute withdrawal of Green Street.

Shortly before start of the race it started raining which continued for an hour even after the race.

Favourite bay filly, Nosheen, won the fifth race defeating Namroud by two lengths.

Had there been a good rider on Namroud instead of Azhar Hussain there might have been a different story to tell. Big Bird finished a close third.

The connections of Fido Dido were deceived once again by the colt, which finished fourth.

In the opener bay mare Princess Afaq put up a superb performance under jockey M. Hanif. The mare came from the last to win the race from Dogar's Gift. Che Guera finished fourth behind Wah Bhai Wah.

The sports lovers enjoyed a keen contest between Gold Krik and Discovery in the second race, the former winning by three-fourth of a length.

Chestnut horse Zargar scored an upset victory in the fourth race. He beat Bright Star, Royal Destiny and Red Flame in the same order.

Turf accountants and punters shared evenly when three favourite won in a card of six races.
