Women protest proposed night shifts

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 5: Dozens of women on Monday staged a protest demonstration against a proposed amendment to labour law, making it binding on female employees to work in night shifts.

The protest had been organised by the Working Women Organisation Trust.

The participants opposed the plan on the plea that any such a move would create security and social problems for women.

They termed the proposal the worst example of exploitation. They said already millers and factory owners were exploiting women workers by employing them on contract basis, forcing them to work according to their terms and conditions and compelling them to do overtime duties.
