SAHIWAL, June 5: A patwari and a farmer arrested by the anti-corruption establishment (ACE) in a bank fraud case were on Monday consigned to central jail on judicial remand till June 16.

Reports said accused Qamar Abbas along with patwari Muhammad Arif of Chak 43/D, Depalpur, Safdar and Riaz prepared a fake agricultural passbook and withdrew Rs3 million with the connivance of Bank Al-falah credit officer Muhammad Ali Hasnain.

After two years when Qamar Abbas failed to deposit any instalment with the bank, its management started auctioning process of his land. During this process, the bank came to know that the agricultural passbook of Qamar Abbas was fake.

On the report of bank manager Iftikhar Husain, the ACE conducted an inquiry and registered a case against main accused Qamar Abbas, patwari Arif, Safdar, Riaz and credit officer Muhammad Ali Hasnain.

The ACE arrested Arif and Safdar who were sent to jail on judicial remand. Main accused Qamar Abbas, Ali Hasnain and Riaz are still at large.
