Survey for chairlift at Fort Munro

MULTAN, June 5: The Tourism Development Corporation Punjab (TDCP) has sought services of a qualified consultancy firm to conduct a survey of Fort Munro, the only hill station in south Punjab, for the installation of a chairlift.

TDCP general manager (operations) Khaqan Babar told APP on Monday the government was committed to install a chairlift/cable car at Fort Munro to offer entertainment facilities to the tourists.

He said an advertisement had been given in newspapers seeking services of some consultancy firm having qualified experts to conduct a survey of the hill station to point out how long a chairlift could be installed, at what suitable points, and what was the direction of the wind flow and the cost involved.

Located at over a 6,400 feet height, the hill station is a part of Dera Ghazi Khan district near inter-provincial Boata check post at Punjab-Balochistan boundary, some 186km off here, and 86 km off the DG Khan city.

The officials said the hill station had rest houses of different government departments, a TDCP motel, a hospital and two lakes. Water supply had already resumed to Fort Munro after recent rehabilitation of its water supply scheme solving a major problem. Road access to the hill station was being improved and the scheme was near completion.
