FIFA, ILO programme for child labourers

By Our Correspondent

SIALKOT, June 5: The International Football Federation (FIFA) and International Labour Organisation (ILO) have signed a ‘Sports Module’ to promote physical and mental growth of the child labourers involved in football industry.

This module will be launched on the eve of inauguration of the World Cup on June 9. As a part of the launching ceremony, a friendly match would be played between a team of former football stitching children, now grown up and mainstreamed into formal education system, and a team from any formal school.

According to officials, the module would be implemented by FIFA, ILO-IPEC in collaboration with the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and Pakistan Sports Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PSGMEA).

SCCI officials said the industry has been sensitised on the issue of child labour and rights. The industry has provided them adequate social protection cover.
