Abida for mass movement

FAISALABAD, June 4: Syeda Abida Hussain, former federal minister and ambassador to the US, says the launch of a mass movement against misdeeds of the government is the need of the hour. Speaking at ‘meet the press’ at the local Press Club on Sunday, Abida said that people and politicians would have to face the wrath of the government in steering the country out of the ‘internal and external crises’.

She said it was time Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif returned home to lead the nation.

She claimed that Gen Pervez Musharraf had no support of army generals on lending support to allied forces in their war on terror. She said that former Rawalpindi Corps Commander Gulzar Kiani had, in a recent interview, confirmed reports that Gen Musharraf was on a solo flight.

Criticising the local bodies system, she declared it a conspiracy against the people. “This plan is a main hurdle in resolving public problems.”

She said the charter of democracy signed by former premiers was good for strengthening democratic institutions.

Abida said she along with husband Fakhar Imam would meet Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif.

“Like-minded politicians like Fakhar Imam, Taj Muhammad Jamali, Mian Muhammad Azhar, Sardar Wazir Ahmed, Mian Umer Farooq, Salahuddin Saeed, Sarwar Cheema, Salam Khan Khaleel, Amanullah Shahani and some others would soon announce an important decision about their future political course,” she said.
