By Our Correspondent

SAHIWAL, June 4: A woman was killed and eight others injured when a windstorm followed by rain hit the city on Sunday morning. The windstorm uprooted many trees and disrupted electricity and telephone systems.

Bhag Bhari was killed in Rang Shah village, while a child, Sultan, was injured in 18-Tuhra.

Seven people, including Sikandar, Babar, Dildar, Sabira, Sakeena and Shagufta, were injured in wall and roof collapses, and were taken to hospital.

In U-block of Farid Town, power supply remained suspended for eight hours when a transformer burnt.

Harappa Basti Noorpur was cut off from the main power supply when a pole uprooted.

ARRESTED: Seven people were booked for creating panic by resorting to firing in Chak 95/6-R here on Sunday.

Reports said tehsil naib nazim Anwarul Haq allotted construction work of culverts to his favourite contractor, Nauman Afzal.

A former union council nazim, Mian Aslam, and councillor Gulzar who had an enmity with the tehsil naib nazim alleged that the culverts constructed by the contractor were substandard. They broke the culverts and resorted to aerial firing, creating panic in the area.

Farid Town police have registered a case against Mian Aslam, Rashid, Baba Ashraf, Gulzar, Maqbool, Azhar and others.

APPEAL: Noor Shah PPP president Zakir Husain Braal has appealed to the public health engineering department to restore water supply to the people from the existing water supply scheme.

He said during the PPP rule, Noorshah was included in the programme for provision of gas, and urged the government to immediately provide gas to the area.
