MURREE, June 4: Only democratic forces can run the country smoothly and improve the lot of the masses, said ARD leader Makhdoom Amin Faheem. Speaking at a public meeting at new-Murree about 20km from here, he said Pakistan was made through the struggle of the common people under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

After the death of Liaquat Ali Khan, civil-military bureaucracy snatched the powers from the representatives of the people. He condemned all dictatorships, saying it was Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who made the country into an atomic power.

Mr Fahim criticised the policies of the present government, which, he said, created restlessness among the masses. He said the Charter of Democracy was a document at restoring democracy in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Raja Pervez Ashraf alleged that corrupt elements had joined the government ranks. He said the representatives of Murree were offered temptations by the government, but they were not for sale. He said the supply of natural gas to Murree was the project of PPP’s government, but the present regime was trying to take credit.

MPA from Murree Raja Shafqat Abbasi said the Charter of Democracy is the second most important document after the Constitution of 1973. He said about 50 per cent population was without electricity, adding that there were no girls or boys colleges in Kotli Sattian tehsil. He said proceed from the new Murree project should be equally divided between Murree and Kotli Sattian.
