KARACHI, June 4: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, while visiting different localities of the city on Saturday night, told people that the government had taken a serious note of the prolonged power failures and had also asked the KESC to avoid loadshedding in densely populated areas.
“KESC officials were called to the Governor’s House and given special directives in this respect,” he said.
The officials were asked to ensure that no power failure occurred in any area and, if inevitable, the suspension of power supply should not be resorted to without prior information.
The governor said that he had also talked to the federal minister for water and power and got increased the electricity supply to KESC from Wapda. Certain other measures were
also being taken to provide relief to power consumers, he added.
He informed people that meetings with elected representatives and officials had been convened at the Governor’s House to sort out other problems, including traffic.
In reply to a question about his decision on early closure of business to conserve electricity, he said that shops could be allowed to remain open till late in the evening on weekends.
The governor pointed out that neglect of important facilities like water, health, roads, electricity, sewerage, sanitation, etc. had been a cause of inconvenience to people and public welfare works had been pending for many years.
The present government undertaken the same and was determined to complete them within the stipulated time period.
He said the government was striving to provide people relief in various sectors under a multi-pronged strategy.
Through the completion of the ongoing projects, a best network of civic amenities would emerge in the coming years, he added.
