KARACHI, June 4: The newly appointed principal of Sindh Madressahtul Islam, Lt-Col Taj Muhammad Memon, has vowed to make the institution an ideal and purely academic seat of learning.

He was addressing the section heads of the institute after assuming the charge of principal.

He said that it was an honour for him to head the SMI, which had been the alma mater of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Memon said his priority would be to ensure academic activities according to the need of the modern age and to convert the SMI into an ideal and purely academic institution by providing a conducive working and academic environment for teachers, staff and students.

He lamented that the standard of education in the country was deteriorating day by day but it was everyone’s prime obligation to improve its standard as the nation’s survival was dependant on it.

The principal was of the view that there was always a room for enhancing academic standards but that needed sincerity and commitment.

He said he always considered himself as a teacher rather than an administrator, and assured that he would provide a complete harmonious and encouraging atmosphere and that corporal punishment would be banned.

In the meeting, the academic and administrative matters of the institution were reviewed in detail.—APP
