Workers’ children Pindi distt govt awards 94 scholarships

RAWALPINDI, June 2: The district government has decided to award scholarships worth Rs10,000 each to 94 talented children of workers and labourers.
According to a press release, this was decided in a meeting of the District Committee of Workers Children Education, held here at the DCO’s Office on Friday.
District Nazim Raja Javed Ikhlas, who presided over the meeting, said the government was committed to providing education to all, adding that it would support talented students fully.
District Officer for Labour Mohammad Ijaz informed the meeting that the Punjab Workers Welfare Board had provided funds to award scholarship to workers’ children.
He said 98 applications had been received, out of which 94 meet the criteria. The district nazim had approved the award of scholarships to these 94 students, he added.
Mr Ijaz said children of workers employed with seven institutions were awarded stipends.
Meanwhile, in another meeting, the district nazim directed the Department of Housing and Physical Planning and the Department of Revenue to remove encroachments from the property of Commerce College Rawalpindi.
It was decided that the encroachers be served notices to vacate the site within 10 days on voluntary basis otherwise a grand operation against them would be launched.
