HYDERABAD, June 2: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that the district will set aside funds in the next budget for providing buildings to 30 shelter-less schools and will ensure that all such schools have their own buildings before his government’s tenure ends.

Mr Jamil said in his address to the ceremony for laying foundation stone for the Government Boys Primary School at Scout ground, Latifabad on Thursday, that the district would convert 10 Urdu and Sindhi medium schools into English medium this year to bring the standard of education at government schools at par with private schools.

The district aimed to convert 100 more such schools into English medium next year and almost all during his third year in office, he said.

In addition, the government schools teachers would be provided training in private training centres at the district’s expenses, he said.

He regretted that the children were forced to sit under trees to take their classes in 200 shelter-less schools in the district and assured that all of them would have their buildings within next four years.

He said that the primary school he had inaugurated would soon be upgraded to middle level and then to high school level within no time.

People had lost confidence in government schools due to declining standard of education, and even the middle class parents who found it pretty difficult to afford the fees did their utmost to get their children into private schools, he said.

He said that the district had formed education monitoring committees to pay surprise visits to the schools to check the teachers’ attendance and also ensure if the schools have proper infrastructure including furniture and water supply.

The nazim who also laid

the foundation stone for a middle school in Ilyasabad and inaugurated work on a water pipeline at Gulistan Bukhari road said that the pipeline would cost the district Rs3.2 million and would complete within three months.
