LAHORE, June 1: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi on Thursday said the increase in investment in Pakistan reflected foreign investors confidence in the economic policies of the government.

He was talking to a British parliamentary and investors delegation which called on him at his secretariat. The delegation was led by MP Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar and comprised British parliamentary secretary for education Shahid Malik, Imran Khund, Umer Ishaq and University of Management and Technology’s rector Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad.

The chief minister said the trend to invest in Pakistan by the world monetary and financial institutions had increased because of ‘favourable’ conditions here. This was generating new opportunities of employment and leaving an overall good impact on the national economy.

He said numerous mega projects were being completed in the province through foreign investment. A huge 91-acre trade center was being built in Lahore with the cooperation of a UAE-based group that would enhance trade and recreational activities in the city and provide jobs to thousands of people.

Similarly, the chief minister said, mega projects were being introduced in the housing sector with foreign investment. A software information technology park was being established, he added.

This was the first huge project of its kind which would promote information technology and speed up foreign and local investment here. The park would be the most modern hi-tech building of Pakistan that would promote economic activity. The government had improved the process of providing infrastructure which was a must for attracting investment, he continued.

Chaudhry Sarwar said expatriates were keen in investing in Pakistan. Majority of them wanted to invest their money in different projects in Pakistan, he added. —Staff Reporter
