Sangi’s killing widely condemned

HYDERABAD, June 1: Protest rallies were held on Thursday in several districts of the interior of Sindh against the murder of TV cameraman Munir Sangi.

In Hyderabad, a large number people, including journalists, politicians and leaders of social welfare organisations took out a procession from the Sindh University old campus to Hyder Chowk. They also staged a sit-in in the chowk blocking traffic.

Senator and MMA leader Khalid Mehmood Soomro announced a strike throughout Sindh for Friday.

Leaders demanded immediate arrest of the murderers of Munir Sangi.

LARKANA: Soyem of Munir Sangi was held here on Thursday. It was attended by people from various walks.

Later, journalists and different social, political and trade organisations took out a procession that after marching on main roads turned into a rally outside Jinnahbagh.

Speaking on the occasion, Nisar Khokhar, Aslam Shaikh, Aziz Abbasi, Iqbal Soomro and Farooque Soomro condemned the murder and called for the early arrest of the killers.

Protesters also burnt tyres and blocked traffic.

Quran Khwani was also held at Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro’s house for Munir Sangi and Langar was distributed on Thursday, said Qadir Bakhsh Bhatti the spokesman for the minister.

SUKKUR: Hundreds of journalists and activists of different political and social parties in Sukkur, Rohri, Ghotki, Mirpur Mathelo, Daharki, Ubauro, and others towns of Sukkur and Ghotki districts staged protest demonstration in front of their respective press clubs, on Thursday, as a token of protest against the killing of Muneer Sangi cameraman of KTN.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders demanding protection for the journalists in Sindh especially the interior parts, said that, three journalists in the interior have so far been killed.

They said that, the journalists are being threatened by the feudal lords, on the disclosure of the truth.

Terming Muneer Sangi as first martyr of electronic media, they paid rich tributes to him.

The rally among others was attended by Mushtaq Surhio of PPP, Lala Suhail Pathan of JSQM, Moulana Hizbullah Jakhro of MMA, Shahzado Bhutto of SNF and others.

In Ghotki, the journalists led by Ramzan Channa and Allah Warrayo Bozdar took the streets from press club and marching through the main streets reached at Peoples chowk, where they staged protest demonstration.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders strongly condemning the killing of Muneer Sangi demanded of the government to arrest the culprits and pay compensation to his relatives.

DADU: Journalists here observed a token hunger strike outside the press club for not arresting the accused involved in the murder of Munir Sangi.

Earlier, the newsmen took out a rally in the town led by senior journalist Nizam Shaikh.

BADIN: Journalists and political and social activists staged a demonstration outside press club against the killing of TV cameraman Munir Sangi.

They raised slogans and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.

They also demanded protection to journalists. They called for judicial inquiry into the murder.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Rallies were taken out by journalists in Naushahro Feroze, Moro, Kandiaro, Tharushah and Bhirya.

In Naushahro Feroze, journalists took out processions.

KHAIRPUR: Newsmen staged a demonstration outside the press club.

JACOBABAD: Soyem of Munir Sangi was held here on Thursday. Journalists took out a procession and demanded the arrest of his murderers. Protests were also held in Thul, Kandhkot and Garhi Khairo.

In Sanghar, newsmen took out a procession against the killing.
