HYDERABAD, June 1: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that out of a Rs2.5 billion allocation for mega projects, work has already been started on two filter plants and four water supply lines.

He said that after work on the projects was completed, the problem of water supply in the city would be solved.

He was speaking on the occasion of inauguration of water supply lines in Ghummanabad and Pathan Colony on Wednesday.

City Taluka Naib Nazim Ghulam Shabbir Chishti, UC-3 Nazim Q. Mohammad Hakim, HDA director-general Tahir Ahmed and Wasa managing-director Sohail Yazdani were present on the occasion.

Kanwar Naveed Jamil said that residents of Ghummanabad, Pathan colony, Dadan Shah colony, Gharibabad, Sarfaraz colony and adjoining areas had been facing the problem of an acute shortage of water and they were forced to drink contaminated water.

He said that the problem should have been solved 20 years back but the people had not only ignored with regard to water supply but they were also deprived of other basic facilities.

He said the district government was giving a top priority to the water supply issue.

He said that the work on the construction of filter plants in Paretabad and Hala Nako had already been started which would cost Rs700 million.

He said that in addition to this, a big water pipeline was also being laid from Paretabad to Fateh Chowk at a cost of Rs80 million to provide clean water to residents of American Quarters, Hali Road, Zeal Pak Colony and adjoining areas.

The nazim said that pipelines were also being laid from Hala Nako and Latifabad-4 to supply water to different areas of Rishi Ghat and Latifabad.

He said that another water pipeline was being laid from old filter plant to Sehrish Nagar at a cost of Rs80 million.

He gave other details about water supply schemes and said that an amount of Rs1 billion was being spent only on the water supply schemes.
