KARACHI, June 1: The construction of the Yousuf Goth inter-city bus terminus in Baldia Town has been completed, and tenders have been invited for its operation, management and maintenance.
The Additional District Officer, Transport and Communication Department, of the city government, Zafar Ehsan, told this to participants of a road safety course on Thursday.
The course was organized by the National Institute of Labour Administration and Training (Nilat).
He said that in order to ease the pressure of traffic from the city’s roads, all inter-city bus stands would be shifted from various parts of the city to terminuses being set up on the highways.
Mr Ehsan said that 45 and 15 acres of land had respectively been earmarked for inter-city bus terminals on the Super and National highways. He said that in the current month, traffic signals would be installed at the UP Moar intersection in North Karachi.
While a multi-storey car-parking plaza was being constructed to ease traffic congestion in busy downtown areas.
The ADO said that after the construction of flyovers, underpasses and roads, the city would wear a new look.
Speaking about traffic accidents, he said that in Pakistan, 7,000 people died in accidents annually, while this figure was 600 per annum in Karachi.
He added due to rash driving, fatal traffic mishaps were on the rise.—PPI
