Loadshedding due to power shortage: KESC

ISLAMABAD, May 31: The main reason for load-shedding in Karachi is shortage of electricity, according to a KESC spokesman. Speaking in a PTV programme on Wednesday, Sye Sultan Hassan said Karachi’s power requirement was about 2284 mw while the supply was only 2084mw, making loadshedding necessary.

He said the KESC would soon announce a load-shedding schedule for Karachi for information of consumers.

Replying to a question he said that discontinuation of 350mw supply from Hubco to the KESC caused trippings at nine grid stations, but the supply from all the affected grid stations was restored at 6.30 am.

However, he said that at about the same time an attempt was made to cut power cables from towers 58 to 62 to steal power of the KDA Valika circuit, and that necessitated loadshedding in the city.—APP
