KARACHI, May 31: Top seed Nomi Qamar cruised into the men’s singles next round when he disposed off Zuhair Raza in straight sets on the opening day of the 10th Anti Tobacco Day tennis tournament at the CDGK Sports Complex, Kashmir Road, on Wednesday.
Nomi, who had represented the country in the Islamic Games at Saudi Arabia last year, was home without conceding a point 6-0, 6-0.
Zuhair, however, had some consolation when appearing in juniors U-18 singles he got the better of Ali Imran 6-0, 6-4.
Mustafa Zaidi and Ali Zubair chalked up two victories apiece in juniors and boys singles in contrasting styles.
Mustafa downed Irfan 6-0, 6-0 in juniors and defeated Arif by the same score line in boys singles.
On the other hand, Zubair had to rally hard to overcome Azher 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 in Juniors before inflicting 6-1, 6-1 defeat on Irfan in the boys event.
Boys U-15 singles and doubles event have been included following encouraging response, according to the organizers.
