KARACHI: Inspector succumbs to burn wounds

KARACHI, May 31: The police inspector, who was allegedly set on fire by his brother in-law near Sohrab Goth, died during treatment at the Civil Hospital on Tuesday night.

Police said Ashfaq Memon was driving his car when unknown persons intercepted him and set him on fire near Ayub Goth on May 23.

The victim had suffered over 80 per cent burns. He was shifted to the burns ward of the Civil Hospital. Police suspected that the inspector was set ablaze by the brother of his second wife.

Police said that the body was taken away by his fourth wife, Parveen, for burial in Hyderabad.

ARRESTED: Police arrested a bandit and recovered the looted cash from his possession at Rashid Minhas Road on Wednesday.

Police said that Amir Shahzad had withdrawn Rs20,000 from Habib Bank Gulistan-i-Jauhar branch. He was intercepted near Aladin Park by two persons on a motorcycle. They snatched the cash at gunpoint and fled.

The complainant immediately informed the police helpline. Subsequently, a police party of the Aziz Bhatti Police Station intercepted the suspects and arrested one of them.
