KARACHI: KWSB housing facilities to be improved: MD


KARACHI, May 31: The managing director of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Brig Iftekhar Haider, has said that on the directive of City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, the housing problems of KWSB employees would be solved on priority basis.

He stated this during a detailed visit to the employees’ residential colonies in Dhabeji, Gharo Filter Plant Colony, Pipri Filter Plant Colony, North East Karachi Old Filter Plant Colony to know about their problems.

The water board employees informed Brig Iftekhar about their problems relating to cleanliness, repair of quarters, electric supply, sewerage, medical facilities, supply of gas, security and transport.

The KWSB MD announced setting up of a Residential Problems Committee, headed by concerned Resident Engineer, to solve the outlying problems of the employees. He said that the constitution of committee should be completed by June 15 and should also include residents’ representatives as members.

Brig Iftekhar said it was desire of the nazim that colonies of water board should have all those facilities as were available to those living in the city. He said the committee would send its recommendations to the MD Office for their implementation on priority basis.

The deputy managing director human resource, chief engineers maintenance, electrical and mechanical and other officials were also present on the occasion.

SEWERAGE PROJECT: On the directive of City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, work has started on improvement of water and sewerage systems in 18 towns for which each town has been given a special grant of Rs50 million by the city government.

In Jamshed Town, the work on laying 12 and 18 inch dia sewerage pipelines near Jail Chowrangi was formally inaugurated on Tuesday night.

Chief Engineer Zone-II Najam Alam said that efforts were being made to complete every project on time as per instructions of the KWSB Managing Director so that area people could be provided water and sewerage facilities as soon as possible. He said that due to joint strategy of the Nazim and the KWSB MD, work had boosted on ongoing schemes.

The chief engineer stated that 12 and 18 inch dia pipelines would improve the sewerage system around Buhadar Yar Jung School and other areas and a long pending problem of people would be solved.

Jamshed Town Nazim Arif Ajakia, Naib Nazim Zia and other officials and engineers were also present on the occasion. –APP
