By A Sports Correspondent

KARACHI, May 30: Nomi Qamar, who last represented triumphant Pakistan Davis Cup team against China at Peshawar two years back, has been top seeded in the men’s singles draw of the Rs75,000 10th Anti-Tobacco day tennis tournament which gets into action at the renovated courts of CDGK Sports Complex, Kashmir Road, on Wednesday.

He was given the top seeding in the absence of country’s top ranked player and defending champion, Aqeel Khan, who has gone to India to feature in Futures tournament.

Nomi is followed by Jalil Khan, Adnan Khan and Khalid Ali Nazar.

Sehr Khawaja, a former national hard court champion, tops the women’s seeding list.

Other events to be contested in the tournament are men’s doubles, junior’s U-18 singles, veteran’s doubles and executive doubles.

The men’s singles winner will fetch Rs20,000 while the women’s singles champion will also get richer by a similar amount. The tournament concludes on June 4.

The CDGK has provided the facilities free of cost to support the anti tobacco cause.

However, the organisers are charging Rs200 per person per event on account of entry fee.

Wednesday’s fixtures:

9.00am: Junior’s U-18 singles (first round)

2.00pm: Men’s singles (first round)
