DADU, May 30: The District Council of Dadu in session held her on Tuesday demanded that the BHP Billiton, oil and gas company, should launch water supply and drainage schemes in all villages of Johi taluka because underground water in the villages was contaminated with arsenic.

The session was presided over by Naib Nazim Syed Mohammad Shah.

Council members, Manzoor Panhwar, Ali Sher Leghari and Ahmed Khan Solangi, demanded in a resolution that the company should utilize community welfare funds to initiate sweet water supply and drainage schemes in areas where it operated its oilfields.

The resolution appealed to the president of the company to take the initiative in accordance with its agreement with the government. Sikandar Leghari, a council member, had put forward the motion stating that consumption of contaminated water in Johi was causing hepatitis-C among people.
