NAWABSHAH, May 30: Residents of Taj colony blocked the Nawabshah-Daur link road on Tuesday in protest against a severe shortage of drinking water. They burnt tyres on the road and raised slogans against the TMA authorities.

Taluka Naib Nazim Khan Bahadur Bhatti and UC Nazim Javed Arain led the protesters.

They protesters said that they were not receiving water for the last two months and the sub-soil water was brackish.

They accused the taluka municipal administration of selling their water to ice factories.

They said that women had to go to Linepar by crossing the railway track to fetch water which was not only dangerous but also miserable in hot weather.

They said that children were suffering due to water shortage and their business was also affected.

Taluka Nazim Abdul Rauf Khan said that water shortage was due to the rotation programme in the Gajrah canal, the main source of water supply to the city. He said that repair work of water supply lines was being carried out on the emergency basis and was almost completed.

He said that water had already reached many areas and remaining areas would receive water after two days.

JSSF: Activists of the Jeay Sindh Students Federation held a demonstration outside the press club in protest against firing on the house of JSQM chairman Basheer Khan Qureshi.

Ghaffar Hisbani, Sajid Dahri, Lala Riaz and Masood Khaskheli led the protesters.

They said that the government wanted to harass the JSQM but the workers would never be afraid of such acts and would continue to follow the teachings of G.M. Syed.
