KARACHI, May 30: Fifty-nine Pakistani fishermen released from Indian jails were received by a team of Fishermen’s Co-operative Society on Monday at Wahga, the Pakistan-India border near Lahore.
FCS Manager Iqbal Ahmed Mahar, who led FCS team, distributed clothes, sweets, food and cash among the fishermen, says FCS press release issued here on Tuesday.
Later, these fishermen were transported to Karachi in two buses which were arranged by the FCS.
The fishermen were arrested by Indian Coast Guards from October 2005 to February 2006.
Earlier, 156 fishermen released from India had reached Wahga on April 19, 2005 and 56 others on September 12, 2005.
FCS Managing Committee Member Shujaat Ali Karani in a message has congratulated the released fishermen and their families.
He also advised the fishing community to avoid entering into other countries’ limits while fishing in the sea.—APP
