LAHORE, May 29: Around 70 patients suffering from gastroenteritis are being brought to the Mayo Hospital daily. Only a few of them are said to be seriously ill. Doctors at the emergency said on Monday that the number of patients admitted to hospitals in every summer remained more or less same. They said that consuming contaminated water or loss of water owing to high temperature caused the disease. They said no causality had so far been reported in Lahore this year.

Similarly, some 30 patients are being brought to the Shalamar Hospital daily.

Most of the patients belong to the areas like the walled city, Ravi Road, Mughalpura, Harbanspura and Malipura. Sanitation facilities in these areas are poor and water supply lines are decades old.

Rizwan, a resident of Ravi Road, said that contaminated water was being supplied to the residents of the area.

Seminar: A seminar in connection with the anti-tobacco day will be held at the Shaikh Zayed Hospital on Wednesday.

Department of Pulmonology head Dr Nazim Bokhari will deliver a lecture.
