By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 29: An 11KV underground high-tension power cable got damaged on Monday during the development work in Nazimabad, suspending supply to Gulbahar, parts of Nazimabad, Rizvia and adjoining areas.

People staged a sit-in late night after a daylong power breakdown in the area. They took to streets at 11:15pm and blocked the Nawab Siddique Ali Khan Road for traffic. They raised slogans against the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation for its poor performance.

KESC officials said that the high-tension line was damaged at three places during development work in Nazimabad by the city government.

They said the repair work began soon after the receipt of information about the damage of the high-tension line.

They said work was almost complete and the area would be energized by midnight.

Meanwhile, vast rural areas of Gadap are facing electricity crisis for at least last one week, adds APP.

A number of villages are affected by the long power breakdowns. These included Old Thana Village, Mula Essa Goth, Jam Goth, Memon Goth, Haji Miandad Goth, Samoon Goth, Haji Murad Jaffar Goth, DarsanoChhano, Kathore, Saleh Mohammad Goth, Kohi Goth.

Most of electronics items in the houses had also been short- circuited due to voltage fluctuations.

A representative group of growers has drawn the attention of higher authorities to this aggravating situation.
