HYDERABAD: Rs70m water project to be completed soon: Nazim

HYDERABAD, May 29: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that work on laying of a water pipeline from the filter plant to Sehrish Nagar will be completed soon at a cost of Rs70 million. He also said that work on four mega projects and other development schemes of Rs400 million was in progress in Qasimabad taluka. The nazim was speaking as chief guest at a function held in connection with the laying of 27-inch sewers and construction of roads in Qasimabad taluka on Monday.
Work on six more sewerage schemes would be started in near future, he added.
DCO Hyderabad Mohammad Hussain Syed, HDA Director-General Tahir Ahmed, EDO works and services Abdul Haleem Ghori and other officials of the district government were present on the occasion.
He said that in the first phase, Rs80 million would be spent on the sewerage line scheme and construction of roads from Marvi town to Gulistan-i-Sajjad.
In the second phase, he said, the sewerage line would be laid from Sindhi Muslim Society to Sheedi Goth pumping station, from where the sewage would be discharged into the treatment plant through a big pipeline. Treated water would be used for irrigation, he added.
When work on sewerage and water supply pipelines was completed, construction of a modern asphalt concrete road would be started, he said.
He said construction of two parks in Bhittai town and Naseem Nagar would also be completed very soon while the work on the renovation and beautification of Rani Bagh at a cost of Rs50 million was also proceeding at a hectic pace.
CITY TALUKA: Speaking at another function on the Qazi Abdul Qayoom Road, city taluka Hyderabad, Kanwar Naveed Jamil said the district government would also lay sewerage and water supply lines and construct roads in cantonment areas.
He said, in order to keep the city neat and clean, hydraulic lifters were being provided to 41 union councils of Hyderabad. The authorities had decided to hire services of only one contractor for the construction of roads, laying of sewerage and water pipelines to complete all the development works without any delay.
He sought cooperation of citizens, especially businessmen, to ensure completion of all development schemes.
Nazim City Taluka Javed Jabbar, Taluka Naib Nazim Shabbir Chishti, officials of the district government and elected representatives were present on the occasion.
The district nazim said work on sewerage mega projects in the city taluka would be completed in three phases at a cost of Rs70 million. He said the work would be started in June and completed within one year.
He pointed out that the population of Hyderabad had increased manifold, but no attention had been paid to the extension, repair and replacement of sewerage lines, which had been in 1973.
He said storm water drains were being used as sewerage lines whereas the rainwater collected on the roads, bazaars and streets.
He made it clear from now on sewage would not be discharged into the Phulelli canal. However, it would be used for irrigation after treatment.
DRINKING WATER: The managing director Wasa, HDA, announced here on Monday that following the release of 1,000 cusecs fresh water by the irrigation department downstream the Kotri Barrage, water supply from Hussainabad and Latifabad unit No. 4 water works had been resumed.
He said water samples from 100 different places had been obtained and tested in the laboratories.
