KARACHI: IT dept to award scholarships

KARACHI, May 29: Microsoft intends to invest in the information technology sector in Sindh, a delegation of the firm told the Chief Minister’s Adviser for IT Mohammad Noman Saigal here on Monday. Mr Saigal said the provincial information technology department was making efforts for grant of scholarships abroad to students and those who possessed expertise in the field.

He said investment by Microsoft would help create job opportunities in the sector.

The members of the delegation informed the adviser that Microsoft was also asking other international IT firms to invest in the province.

They said IT experts and students who wanted to utilise their expertise would be extended scholarships abroad for pursuing education in the discipline. Assistance of the Sindh government would be required for the purpose, they said.

They said Microsoft would extend assistance in the ongoing IT projects in the province.

Mr Saigal assured the delegation that the government would provide all-out assistance to local and foreign investors.

He said that the government could not provide IT education at school level because of its limited resources. The government needed help of the private sector to promote IT education in every district of the province, he said.
