KARACHI, May 28: Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leaders have stated that the charter of democracy signed in London would pave the way for a real democracy and it would prove to be a political death of military rulers.

They further stated that the country’s nuclear asset could be safeguarded only if people launch a united struggle against the military dictators.

The PML-N leaders were speaking at a function, organized by the party to commemorate “Youm-i-Takbeer” in the backyard of Karachi Press Club on Sunday. PML-N Sindh chapter acting President Salim Zia, presided over the function.

Referring to the importance of the day, which was celebrated in other parts of the country as well, Salim Zia said “Youm-i-Takbeer was an important event, like the Independence Day.

He said the military rulers had caused harm to the country, and its nuclear power was being compromised and a civil war like situation had been prevailing in the NWFP and Balochistan.

Salim Zia said after restoration of democracy in the country judicial commission would be set up to investigate the Kargill and Siachin issues.

He recalled that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had laid the foundation of the nuclear programme when our 90,000 soldiers were detained in India while Dr A Q Khan gave it a final shape by working on it day and night and Nawaz Sharif despite its opposition by the West made Pakistan an invincible fort by exploding nuclear devices. But, he said, that Bhutto was hanged, Dr A Q Khan has been detained and Nawaz Sharif has been made to live abroad in exile with his family members.

Mamnoon Hussain said military rulers were making attempts to role back country’s nuclear programme, but people would never allow them to do so.

Sardar Abdul Rahim said: “We have to forget our petty differences and launch a united struggle under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif to save the country.

He said that today people were being victimised for commemorating Youm-i-Takbeer in the past. They were being denied jobs, and restlessness had been prevailing in the country owing to rampant unemployment and removal of workers.

Makhdoom Shahnawaz said patriotic people should come forward and strengthen the hands of democratic forces.

Dr Ali Haider Shah said that people would continue their struggle until return of Nawaz Sharif and restoration of a true democracy. Zain Ansari said that people have love for Nawaz Sharif and generals’ victimisation could not deter them from their mission.

Other speakers included Nihal Hashmi, Tariq Khan, Shah Mir Khan, Malik Naeem and Israr Shah.
