COLOMBO, May 28: The military found five bodies on Sunday in a dense national park, 175 kilometres north of Colombo, after a bomb suspected to have been planted by the LTTE went off on Saturday, killing seven tourists.
“We have found five bodies and the jeep in which the tourists were travelling. We have also found the remains of what we suspect are of two more foreigners,” military spokesperson Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe said after search teams combed the dense jungle of the Wilpattu National Park, which spans nearly 1,910 square kilometres and is sometimes patrolled by Tamil Tiger guerrillas.
Samarasinghe said three simultaneous explosions had been heard on Saturday at the park, the largest wildlife sanctuary for elephants and leopards located in the border of the entrance to the north eastern region.
