LAHORE, May 27: A late goal by Adnan helped Mauripur Baloch open their campaign in Under-21 National football with a 2-1 win over Northern Areas in pool ‘A’ at Punjab University ground on Saturday.

Northern Areas were ousted since it was their second defeat. They lost 6-0 earlier in their first match against Punjab.

Mauripur Baloch dominated from the outset, making it 1-0 in the 29th minute through winger Abid. The losers restored parity in the dying moments of the first half when a Mauripur defender scored an own goal.

Adnan rescued the visitors when he found the cage a minute before time.

In other matches, Pakistan Railways and Dera Eleven drew 1-1 at Railways Stadium.

Railways went 1-0 up through Akram in the 21st minute before Mohammad Fahim levelled the score in the 60th minute.

Adeem Shahzad’s late winner helped Wohaib Club edge past NWFP 1-0.

Pakistan Navy outclassed Mardan Club 5-0. Mohammad Asif (12th minute), Farhan Qadir (19th minute), Naeem Ullah (37th minute), Mohammad Farooq (64th minute), Qamar Stephan (71st minute) were the scorers.

Two goals each by Adnan Bari, Abid Ali and Fahim Riaz gave Pakistan Army a 9-0 win over Azad Jammu Kashmir.

Adnan (6th, 9th minute), Abid (43th, 73th minute), Faheem Riaz (50th, 81st minute), Khalid Munir (53rd minute), Jafar Ali (58th minute) and Sajid (70th minute) were the scorers.

Afghan Club were awarded walk over against Gwadar Port Authority at Iqbal Park Sports Complex.

Sunday's fixtures: Punjab v Mauripur Baloch; Sindh v Gwadar Port Authority; Wohaib Club v POF ; Dera XI v Balochistan; Islamabad v Mardan Club; Navy v City Club; Army v Hades FC.
