Research on local heart patients urged
PESHAWAR, May 27: Medical experts have called for research on the patterns of heart disease in Pakistan and a compilation of the data to help devise a strategy to lower the rising trend of cardiac disease in the country.
Speaking at a seminar on carotid artery disease held at the Rehman Medical Institute on Saturday, Professor Mohammad Rehman pointed out that in local seminars, the doctors presented data from the US and Europe, which did not suit local environment.
Professor Miqdad Ali Khan said 800,000 people suffered from heart stroke in the US annually, 60 per cent of them due to carotid artery disease, but no study had been conducted to assess the magnitude of the ailment in Pakistan.—Correspondent
