KARACHI, May 27: The acting City Nazim, Nasreen Jalil, has said that no injustice or excess was being done to the old villages of Karachi. On the contrary, the present leadership believes in providing basic facilities to people, she said, adding that nothing would be spared to solve the problems of the people of Karachi’s suburbs.
She said this while talking to the Khan of Kalat, Suleman Daud, who met her on Saturday.
Ms Jalil made it clear that the city government would take no action nor did it intend to take action in cases where people of old villages were in possession of legal documents, citing the example of Sikandar Goth, which she said continued to exist.
She said only those encroachments had been removed, which were illegally set up on the land of the Al-Mashriq Society.
The acting nazim pointed out that the city government had provided only necessary machinery on court order for removal of encroachments.
On the occasion, the Khan of Kalat spoke about the inhabitants of Gadap, Highway, Malir, Hawkesbay, Scheme-42 and villages at other places.
He said these villages were considered the oldest populations of Karachi and most of their residents had complete legal documents of their lands with them which dated back to the creation of Pakistan.
The Khan invited Ms Nasreen for a visit to the said old villages of Sindh.
LOADSHEDDING: Acting City Nazim Ms Nasreen Jalil on Saturday asked the KESC to immediately contain loadshedding problem in the metropolis to provide relief to citizens.
Talking to the officials of KESC’s Implementation and Distribution Department who called on her at her office, she said frequent suspension of power supply had paralyzed the routine life in the city. The students preparing for their ongoing examinations were particularly facing serious problems.
Ms Jalil assured the KESC of the city government’s full cooperation in resolving the problem and issued directives to the staff concerned in this regard.
She told the city government officials to maintain a close liaison with the KESC with regard to the installation of feeders in various localities so that power supply projects could be completed at the earliest.
A KESC official told her that underground feeders were being installed at Garden East, Port Qasim, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Korangi and other areas.
The acting city nazim asked the I&D department’s Superintendent Engineer Manzoor Ahmed to ensure an uninterrupted power supply consumers and announcement for a loadshedding schedule in advance through newspapers.
She also appealed to citizens to keep all unnecessary electrical devices and lights to conserve energy to prevent the loadshedding from getting aggravated further.—APP
