Tribal elder hands over son to political agent

By Our Correspondent

KHAR, May 26: Tribal elder Malik Sardar Khan handed over to the political authorities his son Nawabzada who is suspected to be involved in killing three Levies personnel at a checkpost in Cheharmang area of the Bajaur agency a few weeks ago.

Sources said that Malik Sardar had a family feud with a local tribesman Malik Rehmat Khan. They said that authorities believed that Malik Sardar’s son had planned to attack the checkpost to avenge Malik Rehmat’s son’s death.

The administration set up a 25-member jirga headed by chief of the Mahmond tribe, Malik Shah Jehan, which asked Malik Sardar to hand over his son to the authorities.

Following the jirga’s decision, the malik handed over his son to assistant political agent of Nawagi subdivision Malik Abdul Qayum for interrogation.

Sources say that if the accused is found guilty his house will be set on fire and the family would be expelled from the agency in accordance with the tribal custom.

EXPLOSION: A vehicle of a Saudi-funded NGO hit a landmine in Kirala, about seven kilometres from Khar, on Thursday.

Sources said that the mine had been planted on a dirt-track and driver Amaunullah was seriously injured in the explosion. The NGO has been looking after orphaned Afghan boys and girls.
