KARACHI, May 26: Training programmes at the University of Karachi have gained momentum which in addition to workshops, seminars and other academic activities are now the focus of interest of teachers who have been inducted recently.
The Human Resource Centre, KU, is organizing a rigorous teachers training programme under the slogan of “Task” i e Traits, Accomplishment, Skills and Keenness.
This programme is the second of its series being organized under the sponsorship of the GEC with the collaboration of the Department of Physiology.
Prof Dr M Abdul Azeem, chairman of the Physiology Department, is the course coordinator of the programme.
This second staff development programme will be inaugurated on May 29 and will continue till June 24.
The programme has been finalized by the organizing committee under the patronage of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim, and Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Akhlaq Ahmed.
It comprises three weeks training with eight modules including computer skills, educational psychology, advanced teaching skills, micro teaching curriculum/course planning, management skills, research skills and educational field.
Experts from KU and other institutions will deliver lectures in this programme and conduct the modules. It was pointed out that the KU has always initiated programmes for the growth and development of its faculty members in particular.
The first staff development programme has already been successfully conducted by its organizing committee.
Newly inducted teachers gained a lot from the workshop for their growth and development as effective teachers and role models, and to cope with the modern trends and fast communication mode fibre optic networking and computer technology.
The main objective of this series of staff development programme is to enable newly inducted teachers to become more effective mediators of the curriculum and facilitators of student learning through effective organization and application of competencies.
For the purpose, the National Academy of Higher Education and the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad, has sponsored resource centres of various universities and allocated funds to carry out programmes.—APP
