KARACHI, May 26: Two suspects were shot dead by police in what they claimed ‘encounters’ in different parts of the city on Friday. A suspect was shot dead while his associate was arrested by police in Gulberg on Friday evening.
Police said that two policemen were patrolling in Joharabad when they signaled a motorcycle. The bike-riders sped away. They were chased by the police. Police opened fire at the suspects killing one near Gulberg Chowrangi and arrested the other.
A TT pistol was recovered from their possession, police said.
The suspect who has been arrested was identified as Ali Akbar.
Earlier, police on early Friday morning shot dead a suspected bandit in what they claimed an encounter in the Nazimabad.
Police said that three bandits had stormed into a house of Nasarullah in Muslim League Quarters and started looting the house by holding the occupants at gunpoint.
Someone from the neighbors informed the police helpline. Subsequently, Rizvia police station team reached the spot ensuing the shootout. A suspected bandit was shot dead by police. However, his two accomplices managed to flee.
Police recovered a TT pistol from his possession.

DSP Airport Haseeb Baig said that the suspect identified as Mumtaz Ahmed used to pose himself as a policeman carrying a wireless set. The suspect has confessed of committing several robberies and looting passengers coming from the airport. A car (AHH-443) was also recovered from his possession.
Two fake police identity cards have also been recovered from his possession, the DSP added.
ACCIDENTS: Two people, including a woman, died and 12 others wounded in two separate accidents in different parts of the city on Friday, adds Online.
An over-speeding coach (JA-9177) rammed into a hi-ace van (CK-8389) near the mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam resulting in serious injuries to four passengers. The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital, where doctors pronounced one of them, Zakira Ikram, 45, dead.
In Clifton, a speeding minibus turned turtle near Boat Basin resulting in death of a person.
Police said that a passenger died and nine others injured when minibus W-11 (JE-7000) turned turtle near Boat Basin. The body and the injured were rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
The injured passengers told the police that they were going to Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine.
