KARACHI, May 26: An anti-terrorism court adjourned on Friday the hearing of a murder case of a police officer after recording the deposition of two prosecution witnesses.

Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the ATC-5 fixed May 30 for the next hearing after the statements of SHO, Chakiwara, Inspector Nasir-ul-Hasan and constable Mohammed Bashir, who were also cross-examined by defence counsel Fazalur Rehman Awan.

Accused Sohail has been charged with the targeted killing of ASI Riyaz Ahmed on Jan 3 this year at the Mir Adam Khan Road, Lyari, in Chakiwara.

The victim was going with his wife on his motorcycle when three motorcyclists intercepted him and shot him dead. The culprits also took away victim’s bike and mobile phone and Rs6,000 from his wife.

The SHO of Chakiwara deposed that he, with a police party, was patrolling the vicinity on Jan 7 when two junk dealers approached him and told him that three bandits had just snatched cash from them.

He said the police party chased the suspects who opened fire on the police party.
