NAWABSHAH, May 25: Activists of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) observed a token hunger strike in front of the press club here on Thursday against what they termed the media trial of Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari.

Activists Dost Ali Rind, Gulsher Bhangwar, Abid Channar, Abid Otho, Sajan Rind and Aftab Memon also participated in the protest.

Speaking to newsmen, they said the government had implicated Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari in fake cases and was conducting a media trial to defame them.

They said the government was afraid of the popularity of the PPP as it was the party of the masses, and demanded withdrawal of the fake cases against the two leaders and an end to their media trial.

They alleged that Ghulam Qadir Chandio, MPA and Nawabshah PPP senior vice-president, had been neglecting party workers.

They alleged that new body of the PPP taluka Nawabshah was illegal and demanded its dissolution and removal of Ghulam Qadir Chandio from the post.

Meanwhile, Ziaul Hassan Lanjhar, president of the PPP taluka, has condemned the token hunger strike.

Protesters were not loyal to the party and were trying to destroy the image of the party, he claimed and demanded that the leadership should take notice of the hunger strike.
