LONDON: MQM demands probe

Published May 26, 2006

LONDON, May 25: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has expressing its deep concern over the incident of fire at a grid station on Queen’s Road on Wednesday and demanded a high-level inquiry into it.

MQM Convener Dr Imran Farooq, in a statement issued from the party’s London secretariat, said that people of Sindh, especially Karachi, had been braving power-related problems for many days and loadshedding of long spans had made their life miserable.

He noted that following the breakout of fire at Queen’s Road grid station, power supply to many areas in the city remained suspended for a whole day.

Meanwhile, Deputy Convener of MQM coordination committee, Dr Farooq Sattar has also called for a high-level investigation into the incident of fire.

In a statement issued on Thursday, he said that loadshedding and power breakdowns had become a permanent nuisance for citizens as their routine activities had badly been affected by the situation.

He urged the government to take concrete steps to get people rid of the power crisis.—PPI/APP
