KARACHI: Young man shot dead

KARACHI, May 25: A young man was shot dead in an attempt to save his cell phone from being snatched in Liaquatabad on Thursday. Police said two men came to the shop of Atta Mohammad, 25. As Atta received a call on his cell phone, the suspects tried to snatch it. As Atta resisted them, they shot him dead and fled after snatching his phone set.

The incident occurred in C-1 Area.

DIES: A young woman was set on fire allegedly by her in-laws in North Nazimabad late on Wednesday night.

Police said Amna, 22, wife of Asif Maqbool, was set on fire allegedly by her husband and in-laws in Kausar Niazi Colony, North Nazimabad.

On late Wednesday night, she was brought dead at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Akhtar Iqbal, a relative of the girl, lodged an FIR with the police, after which Maqbool and his brother were arrested by the police.

ACCIDENT: Two men died in separate road accidents in SITE and North Nazimabad, the police said.

Waris Ali and Afzaal, both in their early 40s, were injured when a recklessly driven vehicle hit their motorcycle near Pracha Chowck in SITE.

The injured motorcyclists were taken to Civil Hospital, where Waris Ali breathed his last. Afzaal was admitted to the hospital.

An elderly man died in a hit-and-run accident near 2-K bus terminus in North Nazimabad, while he was crossing the road.

The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hopsital for autopsy where his identity could not be ascertained. The body was later kept at Edhi’s morgue for identification.

BEATEN-UP: An electronics dealer was beaten up by policeman of investigation police of the Aziz Bhatti police station.
